Cohen Turns Two!

A couple weeks ago Cohen had his second birthday! Ava had been counting down until his birthday the whole month of July.. she LOVES a party. We invited all his 'Bama friends over for pizza and cake, and we had a GOOD time! Cohen was so darling and enthusiastic.. understanding that everyone was there for him. He felt so special; it made his (and my) made my day! I made him an Excavator cake because he is obsessed with tractors and trucks right now, and excavators are his favorite. The look on his face when he first saw his cake was absolutely priceless, worth every minute of late night work on that cake.

Cohen and Jeff admiring the cake and presents! Jeff is one of Cohen's new-found favorite buddies out here.
Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you! It was fun having so many people singing to Cohen! Everyone in the office who was in town came to celebrate with us..(half the office was in another city in hotels for the week). Cohen LOVED being sang to. It's hard to hear in this video, but he sang right along with the whole birthday song.. so cute.

Next came present time..

Ava was right along with him to help speed up the opening process ;)

Cohen got a new soccer and basketball. He's got some pretty good soccer skills.. makes his daddy proud :)

One of Cohen's other obsessions right now besides tractors, is Toy Story. He and Ava are both way into it, and watch the movies all the time. They play "to infinity and beyond!" all the time too, jumping off the couch onto a pile of pillow. So we decided to get him Toy Story stuff for his birthday. Ava got to do the shopping with us and she had been SO anxious for his birthday to come so Cohen could "share all his presents with her." :)

He got his very own real Woody, Bullseye, Jessie, Buzz, and Zurgh. It was fun seeing how excited he got about every single gift.

Ava enjoyed Cohen's gifts too...

This is some video of Cohen opening his new Buzz Lightyear!

He loves his Buzz! He and Ava play Toy Story all the time now, and I think it's so cute. I'm so glad they have each other. They have become such good buddies this summer, and even though we are stuck inside a lot because of the extreme heat, they never complain and have fun every day playing with each other. It makes me so happy :)

To Beat the Heat

I've said this before and I'll probably say it again many times, it's HOT in Alabama.
(Oh yes, I should mention we MOVED. Three weeks ago we moved here from Georgia to spend the second half of the summer in Montgomery. We didn't have internet for the first two weeks.. hence the lack of blogging)
All right, where was I?? Oh ya, it's very hot and HUMID. Take note, humid is the greater evil. I can do Utah hot. When it's 95 degrees, it feels like 95 degrees. That's not how it works with the humidity. One day it was 98 degrees, but my truck thermometer was reading a steady 106! This morning I checked the weather at 9:00 AM: "89 degrees, Feels like 97 degrees with humidity". And that's early in the morning!
So, we desperate house wives have had to find alternative ways to get ourselves and the kids out of the apartments. The kids don't last too long at the park before turning red in the face and dripping in sweat. The pool is great, but can't do that every single day. So one thing we've found to do is hit up the near by fast food joints with INDOOR playgrounds. Luckily we live in a really nice part of town so everything is new and clean. We've got a Burger King and a McDonalds with great kids areas, and even BIG flat screen TV's playing cartoons! So to cool off sometimes we'll take the kids there, grab some ice cream cones, and let 'em loose ;) And us wifeys get a minute to chat and chill. There are so many kids in our group this year, and we've been wanting to do a recipe swap but can't find a place inside big enough to hold all of us since our apartments are a titch to small to avoid total chaos. SO today we decided why not gather at the Burger King? It worked out great! Cara even had a portable copier so we could make copies of each other's recipes! The BK employees were probably like, who on earth are these people?? Oh well, we had a good time :)
.
.
We don't have TV's or Cable in our apartments here, so at BK the kids do a little playing on the slides, but eventually get sucked into the cartoons on the big plasmas...
Yes, Ava and Marli are sharing an ice cream cone.. Classic :)

In his own form of coping with the humidity, Cohen has decided that shirts are no longer of any good use. One day he figured how to take his shirt off himself, and now I have a really hard time keeping one on him! Even out in public..
Hypnotized by the cartoons... They are so deprived ;)
